Badminton Blogging

As it looks like this badminton thing is not just a phase, I thought I’d best start a proper category and talk about it more. I was recently reviewing a friend’s blog and she structures things very strictly, making certain posts on certain days, I quite like the idea of this but at the same time I know that I’ll not stick to it with the same rigidity. I’m going to give it a go anyway and start trying to blog more regularly about badminton and what I’m doing and learning, all of this will be filed under the Badminton category.

I’m going to try to make a badminton post on a weekly basis on Wednesdays and see how things go from there.

Upgrade from Gallery2 to Gallery3

I’ve just finished upgrading my Gallery software from v2 to v3. In spite of all the URL re-writes it appears to have broken all of the image links that were previously on the site, I’ll have to go back and fix all of these in time.

Gallery3 is a massive leap forwards in terms of UI and ease of use, certainly from the admin side of things, hopefully you shouldn’t see too much difference in the site once I finish configuring everything.

Anyway, new gallery is here

Next on the upgrade list is MediaWiki but last time was such a pain to do that it’s really put me off :/

Twitter

One of the reasons I moved over to using WordPress was that I could better manage my content, especially as it seemed that people on LJ were getting annoyed with the Daily-Tweets thing. Having moved over, I’ve used a number of plugins to both post a summary of Twitter entries and synchronize actual blog entries with more content back to Livejournal.

All of this has been working well, but I was looking at my WordPress today and again, it’s just a long list of cloned entries “Today in bullet points …” ad nausea. This looks rubbish if you’re visiting my blog directly (rather than you LJ people who are spared!), so I’ve decided to change it again.

My Twitter tool is now in Weekly Digest mode rather than in Daily mode, which should coincide better with my posting frequency and reduce the signal:noise that’s going on here.

If you’re thinking “Why import tweets at all?”, then the answer is simple: As I don’t blog as much as I used to, I would like to keep at least some method of logging my day-to-day drudgery for reference. So whilst it’s not incredibly important by it’s very nature, it still might be something that I would want to look back on a few years down the road. So I want to archive this stuff somewhere in my control at least. I just don’t want to bore people with it ;)

Of course if you do use Twitter then feel free to follow me (user: Fluffydave), but hopefully it’ll be less intrusive on this blog in the future.
